Using a Bezel Block to Make a Classic Organ Pipe Setting

Sunday

10:00 am - 11:00 am

This bench focused session builds directly on the rectangular stock created in Jason’s earlier demonstration and shows how that material is transformed into a tapered bezel and a classic organ pipe setting. Jason will use the roll mill and bezel blocks to form the bezel, then apply traditional bench techniques to shape and refine the metal into a vintage style organ pipe setting suitable for a solitaire ring.

Because this type of setting is not typically available as a commercial finding, it is most often hand fabricated. Jason will walk through the process step by step, explaining both the techniques involved and the decision making behind them. As the setting takes shape, he will also discuss the metallurgical differences between fabricated and cast components and why those differences matter in terms of strength, durability, and long term performance.

Designed for bench jewelers, this session emphasizes practical fabrication skills while deepening understanding of metal behavior, helping attendees make more informed choices at the bench when creating custom settings.
