Pouring an Ingot and Making Rectangular Stock

This session walks through the full process of creating precise rectangular stock from raw metal, combining calculation, hands on fabrication, and applied metallurgy. Jason will begin by demonstrating how to use simple mathematical formulas to determine the starting dimensions of square stock needed to achieve a specific rectangular result. From there, he will melt and cast a basic ingot using a torch, explaining key considerations in metal behavior and preparation.
The ingot will then be processed through a rolling mill to create square stock to the calculated dimensions, followed by rolling the material into the desired rectangular form. Throughout the demonstration, Jason will explain the working characteristics of the metal, the metallurgical principles involved, and the reasoning behind each step of the process.
The session concludes by carrying the finished stock forward into the next demonstration, where it will be used to create a classic organ pipe setting with a bezel block.
