Designing a Store People Want to Explore

March 13, 2026

11:15 am - 12:15 pm

Retail environments speak long before a salesperson ever says a word. The moment a customer approaches a storefront or steps across the threshold, they begin forming impressions about value, trust, comfort, and whether this is a place worth exploring. In this session, Lyn Falk examines how the physical setting itself influences those early judgments and shapes the customer’s willingness to engage.

Drawing on decades of experience observing retail behavior and guiding store environments, Lyn explores the subtle but powerful relationship between layout, lighting, sightlines, signage, and sensory cues. Participants will consider how design choices affect perceived value, how space can invite discovery, and how small environmental adjustments can encourage customers to stay longer and look more closely.

The session focuses on practical decisions independent retailers can make without undertaking a full renovation. Attendees will learn how to align their physical space with their brand story, remove obstacles that interrupt interest, and think of design as part of the selling process itself.
